Your Guide to Getting a Medical Card in Missouri

On November 6, 2018, 65% of Missouri residents voted to legalize medical cannabis in the state. That was great news for prospective patients across Missouri, who could now access medical cannabis to alleviate a variety of ailments.

But some potential patients have been discouraged by a seemingly complex application process. We’re going to solve that in this post as we break down how to get a medical card in Missouri. Let’s dive in!

How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Missouri: The Basics

Acquiring a medical cannabis card in Missouri is a multi-step process. Below, we’ll outline the application process, look at exactly what qualifying conditions Missouri recognizes for medical cannabis, and discover some of the best medical marijuana doctors in Missouri.

Missouri Medical Marijuana Card: The Application Process

The Missouri State Department of Health & Senior Services has laid out a three-step application process for medical cannabis cards. First, you’ll need to complete one or more forms. You’ll need the help of a medical professional (either a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or a Medical Doctor (MD)) to complete your Physician Certification Form.

If you need to possess more than four ounces of cannabis at a time, you can fill out and submit two Alternate Physician Certification Forms. Additionally, any patient under the age of 18 will need to submit a Parent/Legal Guardian Consent Form.

Next, you’ll need to register online at Missouri’s Medical Marijuana Portal. You’ll complete your registration on this site, which will include uploading a photo of yourself for your Missouri medical marijuana card. Once you finish your online registration, the state has 30 days to process it. The state reviews applications on a first-come, first-served basis.
